About Jean Wilmouth
Jean Wilmouth was a musician and teacher in Pittsburgh PA, and was the force behind the founding of Pittsburgh AOSA chapter. He almost single-handedly brought the world of Orff-Schulwerk to Pittsburgh. He was the mastermind of the Pittsburgh Symphony Percussion Ensemble Series that toured schools throughout the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. Through Jean's team, thousands of children learned about percussion instruments and the role that they played in the Pittsburgh Symphony. Eventually, Jean and his wife Rita opened their own business, Musik Innovations, in 1979 in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. At the store, workshops, lessons, music novelties, and musical instruments were available to the public. Jean passed away in 2007, and Rita passed away in 2012. Musik Innovations closed the retail shop in 2015 after 37 years. The legacy of Jean, Rita, and the store live on in the music community!
